Welcome to Summit Farms!
Proud home of AKC Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs.

We hope you enjoy your visit and find it informative and useful.

Any Greater Swiss Mountain Dog (Swissy)  that lives with us at

Summit Farms is a loved, spoiled, cherished family member that shares

in all areas of our daily lives.

At Summit Farms our goal will be to breed top quality swissies that

excel in structure, movement, temperment, health and long life.

Any Swissy that will be bred here will have all

of their health clearances. They will also have their AKC Championship

title or be working towards one.

If you are thinking of adding a swissy to your family please do your research.

Talk to breeders, go to dog shows and read books to learn all you can about the

GSMD. Getting a GSMD is a lifeling commitement that should not be taken

lightly.  All family members should be ready to commit to the time and energy

it will take to raise a swissy to maturity, which can be many years. It takes

hours of socialization and training to make them the wonderful family dogs that

they can be.

Ancestral dreams come alive as Summit Farms dogs herd like their ancesters did.

We paid a visit to Packleader Farm in Gig Harbor, WA and our dogs herding gene took hold.

It was Shanti and Kruzer's first time herding. We wish to Thank Barb for spending so much time with us and each of our dogs.

Shanti went first. We thought with her prey drive she would just go balistic. She thought for sure she would get into trouble if she started chasing them,

after all that's what happens at home when she chases the cats and squirrels. It took a couple of minutes before she realized this was ok and she was off!!

Then it was Kruzer's turn. He didn't waste anytime. He knew immediatly what he should do with these sheep and there was no stopping him.

He had a job to do and he was more than happy to do it!

Ben had been herding before when he was younger, before his hips bothered him. He loved it so much that we let him take a small turn with the sheep.

We never want to put him in pain because of his hips so his turn was very short. The photos speak for themselves, he knew what to do and loved doing it.

All of the dogs slept all the way home and into the evening. Working like the ancesters did is hard work!!!
